We’ve all heard “don’t talk religion or politics in the office.” This is easy enough—until you hit election year, when political discussions and debates are taking place far more than usual.

Unfortunately, it isn’t possible to completely avoid politics popping up at work. So, as we gear up for the last two months of the presidential race, we’d like to invite all Human Resource Institute members to join us for a roundtable discussion regarding political talk in the workplace.

John Jorgensen SPHR, SHRM-SCP will lead our roundtable forum, and touch upon the following subjects:
    • Political discussion/arguments in the workplace
    • Campaign materials in the workplace
    • Establishing a culture of civility
    • Protecting free speech
    • Possible disciplinary actions
    • and much more
    About our Speaker:

John Jorgensen SPHR, SHRM-SCP is an instructor for Northern Illinois University’s Outreach Program, teaching the SHRM Learning System to HR practitioners who are preparing to take the SHRM Certification Exam in order to obtain their SHRM-CP or SCP certification designation. In addition to teaching, he has over 25 years of Human Resources experience in “the trenches”, working primarily with small to medium sized businesses, mostly in the manufacturing field.

John holds both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Industrial Relations/Human Resources from the University of Iowa. In addition, John is a volunteer leader for the professional association, the Society of Human Resource Professionals, on the local, state and national level.
