Musical Excellence Scholarship Competition

    Musical Excellence Scholarship Competition entrants must be entering freshmen or transfer students who have applied and been accepted by AU Admissions or have an application pending admission. One pianist and one vocalist will win a $5,000 scholarship, renewable for four years equaling $20,000 of total scholarship in music. Secondary prizes may also be available.
     

    Performers follow the guidelines listed below:

    • Students must compete in person starting at 11:00 a.m. An award ceremony will begin approximately 30 minutes after all entrants have performed
    • The competition will take place in Crimi Auditorium at Aurora University.
    • Singers must perform two pieces memorized with one of the works being in a language other than English.
    • Pianists should perform two pieces memorized in contrasting styles from the standard piano repertoire.
    • The time limits between a maximum of 12–15 minutes of music.
    • The competition is a closed setting, with no audience allowed.
    • The Aurora University music faculty will serve as the judging panel.
    • Changes of repertoire are NOT permitted later than 5 days prior to the competition date.
    • Music major declaration is preferred, but not mandatory.
    • An accompanist will be provided to you by the university and each student will be given a short time to discuss music with the pianist.  
    • Current Aurora University students are ineligible to participate in this competition.
    • Competition entrants must be entering freshmen or transfer students who have applied and been accepted by the Office of Admission.
